- I would appreciate information on how to adjust the recording gain
- and/or AGC for this modem. (Sportster Vi 28.8 internal model no. 282)
-
- This modem is working fine for me, except for recording of incomming
- messages. The messages are being recorded at only a fraction of their
- original volume. This makes the modem almost useless for remote
- retrieval of messages. I have done all the obvious things, including
- replacing the modem card, installing offsite in another computer, etc,
- etc, etc. All without improvement. The problem appears to be that there
- is no way to adjust either the recording gain or AGC for this modem.
- Turning up the playback volume provides some improvement, but not much
- because it also amplifies the background noise. Even at full playback
- volume the incomming messages are less than 1/2 their original volume.
- I have contacted both USR and Smith Micro multiple times. Neither group
- has been able to provide me with any information to correct this
- problem. Given that not all phone lines are equal, lack of control for
- either recording gain or AGC would seem to be a design flaw. I would be
- surprised by such a fundamental mistake, so likely I just can't get
- through to support people with enough knowledge about the product.
- Thanks.
